Cavity Prevention Includes Regular Dental Checkups

February 23, 2023

Cavity prevention is very important for maintaining a healthy mouth. Tooth decay is often the result of poor oral hygiene habits that allow for a buildup of bacterial deposits or failure to attend your routine dental checkups.

When this occurs on a chronic basis the persistent presence of plaque acids can weaken the mineral density of your tooth enamel. These demineralized areas can then gradually spread leading to worsening tooth sensitivity and discomfort.

Brushing your teeth each morning and night with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste will help remove bacterial deposits from the surfaces of your teeth, while also helping to strengthen your tooth enamel. Flossing at least once per day is also important for cleaning the spaces between your teeth and gumline.

Cavity prevention also relies on having a dentist perform a routine checkup twice each year. Each of these appointments at Avery Dental Center includes a professional dental cleaning as well as a comprehensive dental exam.

If Dr. Mehrdad Safavian finds a cavity or another developing oral health problem he will help you understand your treatment options. This might also include administering a preventive treatment.
